Cosmetic Fillers
When it comes to using dermal cosmetic fillers as a form of cosmetic skin treatment, there are many options to include Restylane®, Juvederm®, Perlane®, Radiesse®, and others.
There are many cosmetic filler substances available today. Restylane®, Juvederm®, Perlane®, Radiesse®, are just a few of the more popular ones. Many fillers are designed to provide correction in certain areas where others are suitable for all areas presenting a loss in volume. The correct filler for your specific needs will be determined during your consultation.

RESTYLANE®
What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid-based injectable filler used by dermatologists to add volume and fullness to the skin to correct facial wrinkles and folds, particularly nasolabial folds, also known as laugh lines. This injectable product can also be used to add fullness to the lips on people over 21 years of age.
Who is a Candidate for This Treatment?
Most adults wishing to add volume to their skin in order to reduce or eliminate severe folds or wrinkles would be good candidates for Restylane® treatment. However, if you are pregnant or breast feeding, have a bleeding disorder, have had serious allergic reactions to gram-positive bacteria or have any allergic drug reaction that has required hospitalization, you should not use Restylane®.
What is the Treatment Process?
Though individual times may vary, a typical Restylane® treatment takes less than an hour, with little pain reported by patients. The area will be cleansed and injections performed with an ultra-fine needle. The initial treatment will immediately lift your facial folds and wrinkles by adding volume. A follow-up treatment, called the Restylane® regimen, scheduled between four-and-a-half and nine months later, can extend results for up to 18 months.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
After Restylane® treatment, you may experience mild swelling, pain, redness, bruising or tenderness. Usually these last a maximum of seven days for nasolabial folds and less than 14 to 18 days after lip treatments. There is little usually no downtime associated with the treatments.
What are the Typical Outcomes?
Within a week, most patients see a dramatic improvement in folds and wrinkles, with further enhancement noticeable after the follow-up treatment.
Juvederm® is an injectable filler designed to temporarily fillout facial folds and wrinkles, particularly “laugh lines” (nasolabial folds) that run between the corners of the nose and mouth. The hyaluronic acid in the injected gel helps plump up and smooth out folds and wrinkles.
Who is a Candidate for This Treatment?
Adults wishing to smooth out severe facial folds or wrinkles are normally good candidates for the procedure. However, those have multiple serious allergies or have had allergic reactions to lidocaine or gram-positive bacteria should not have Juvederm® therapy.
What is the Treatment Process?
The injection procedure last approximately one hour. Because the numbing agent lidocaine is a component of Juvederm® injections, there is little discomfort during the procedure, and your physician may also apply a topical numbing cream.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
After the procedure, you can expect to see maximum improvement within two weeks. Immediately afterwards, you may experience temporary injection site redness, pain, tenderness, swelling bruising, itching, discoloration or bumps.
What are the Typical Outcomes?
Patients generally report a dramatic improvement in nasolabial folds, with temporary enhancement lasting between nine months and one year. Repeat injections are necessary to maintain optimum improvements. During maintenance injections, usually about half the amount of product is used.
